These members went on to achieve a Distinction in the English Speaking Board exam\, they might still have butterflies when standing up in front of other members but they have learnt how to control their nerves and what to say! \n  \nThis will be a fun day with plenty of laughter but you will go away having the confidence to stand up and speak in front of your fellow members.  You might even want to progress to the next stage! \n  \nWe will provide the tea\, the coffee\, the biscuits and the fun but please wear comfortable clothes\, bring a packed lunch and your sense of humour! DESCRIPTION:We look forward to seeing you at the New Speakers Day at the WI Centre\, Whitelands\, Terling Road\, Hatfield Peverel\, CM3 2AG which we have arranged for Friday 15 September 2017. There will be five or six different speakers who will give a shortened version of their usual presentations. As always there will be an opportunity to ask questions and to complete a short questionnaire giving your thoughts about the speakers’ suitability for WI meetings. \n  \nDo come along on Friday 15 September from 10.00am for coffee with a 10.30am start to 3.30pm at the WI Centre. Tickets cost £7.00 each\, (including tea and coffee on arrival and during lunch only) are available from the WI Centre.  Please bring a packed lunch. \n  \nPlease note: \n\nThese days are arranged to help Institutes find new speakers for their meetings. It is\, therefore\, expected that Institutes will pay the cost of the ticket for one member to attend.\nHowever\, due to the increased demand for New Speaker Day tickets\, if a ballot has to be held\, ticket numbers will be restricted to TWO per WI\, with priority given to those previously unlucky in the ballot.

DESCRIPTION:The Civic Hall\, Blackshots Lane\, Grays\, Essex RM16 2JU \nFriday 13 October 2017 \nDoors open 9.30am for 10.30am – 15:30pm \nWe can now confirm that our guests for the Autumn County Meeting  will be the “West End Jerseys” and Steve Scruton. \nSTEVE SCRUTON:Steve’s involvement in radio began in the mid 1970’s with Hospital Radio Chelmsford where he volunteered for over 15 years. During that time he became chairman for 10 years\, was elected president\, and continues to be an honorary member. \n\nAfter working in studio production with local commercial radio\, Steve was invited to join BBC Essex in 1988. He produced and presented the weekday afternoon show for 22 years along with production and presentation of weekend programmes. During that time he was a leading producer and presenter of the station’s outside broadcasts. \nSteve worked to forge links between BBC Essex and outside organisations bringing the BBC closer to many local communities. He has presented countless stage shows and concerts both outdoors and within theatre\, and has hosted numerous events for local groups. \nWEST END JERSEYS:This Jersey Boys Tribute Band is fast becoming one of the most-renowned acts of its kind in the UK. \nIn the last three years\, The Jersey Boys Tribute Band has become the most sought after act within the corporate market. It was only a matter of time before Magnetic Theatre Limited\, with their access to some of the West End’s finest voices\, launched WEST END JERSEYS. \nWEST END JERSEYS secured their first booking on 4th December 2015\, and since then it has been absolutely non-stop. With the band booked up on nearly every Saturday for the rest of 2016\, and already busy in 2017\, you have to book fast to secure this incredible Jersey Boys Tribute Band. \nWEST END JERSEYS features stars of the West End\, performing the incredible music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. From SHERRY\, their first No. 1 single\, to chart-topping hits like OH WHAT A NIGHT\, WALK LIKE A MAN\, and BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY\, the WEST END JERSEYS take you through one of the most recognisable back catalogues in music today. \nTickets (£15.00 per visitor – delegate can go for free) can be obtained using the order form in the back of your Essex News\, or if you would like to call and order your tickets please call 01245 382233 or email us on admin@essexwi.org.uk. \n\n  \nThere will be a cafeteria area available to purchase tea and coffee and as always it would be advisable to bring a packed lunch. \n  \nYou will have the opportunity to undertake some retail therapy from the WI Shop with its “Centenary Items” as well as our old favourites Country Markets who will also be attending. \n  \nThis meeting is open to one delegate (free of charge) from each Institute and visitors at £15.00 \neach. There is ample free parking. \n  \nPlease complete the form in Essex News or the flyer that your Secretary should have and return to the WI Centre by Thursday 10 August 2017. \n
