SUMMARY:Bespoke Lampshade Making with Shady Ladies
DESCRIPTION:Non members £48 \n \nThis workshop offers the opportunity to unleash your creativity and make a 30cm drum lampshade\, with a fabric of your choice\, which you can use in your home for either a table/floor lamp or ceiling pendant. \nNo experience necessary and no sewing is involved! \nYou will learn how to apply the lampshade PVC to get the best out of your fabric\, how to attach the rings and create neat rolled edges\, and master the technique of ‘tucking’ to achieve a polished\, professional finish. \nYour tutors for this workshop are Jo and Nicky the “Shady Ladies”. Cost includes the lampshade kit – all you need to bring is your choice of material.   You will need 0.5m length of fabric.  We recommend using a light to medium weight fabric\, either a cotton\, poly cotton or a linen/cotton mix\, and if you would like a patterned fabric we recommend a printed design.  Please choose your fabric carefully. If you choose to have a large print then make sure the depth of the design that you would like visible on your shade is a maximum of 25cm as you will need material to tuck in to your shade and will not be showing. \nPlease bring a mug for tea/coffee. \n

SUMMARY:Summer Lunch with author Ruth Leigh at Hunters Meet
DESCRIPTION:Non members £37 \n \nAs part of our programme of Summer Lunches\, come and join us for a sumptuous lunch. \n\nA fabulous 2 course lunch with coffee or tea at Hunters Meet\, Hatfield Heath with guest author Ruth Leigh.\nRuth is a novelist and freelance writer living in Suffolk. She has published 4 books in her Isabella M Smudge series of novels. Ruth will be entertaining us with “Lunch with Mrs Ashton Dennis” – a wonderful pseudonym used by a much-loved  (and much read) English author. Ruth will speak about “Mrs Dennis’s” life\, her writing and some unexpected elements in her novels. Readers may see this author writing novels about young women hunting for husbands\, but she is infinitely cleverer and more revolutionary than that. \n\nThe menu has a choice of main courses and desserts which you can select on the day plus tea and coffee.\nNon members welcome!

SUMMARY:Reduction Linocut Printmaking Workshop CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:Non members £46 \n \nWe are pleased to be welcoming back to WI centre Eleanor from Wee Bothy Arts www.weebothyart.com \n\nThis hands-on workshop is designed for those who have completed the introduction to linocut workshop. \n\nYou will be guided through the process of designing\, carving and printing your own reduction print. You will learn how to create\, carve and print your own 2 to 3 colour reduction linocut during this one-day course. \nIn reduction lino\, the design is produced from one single lino block\, layering up the colour each time the lino block is cut. It is an interesting and challenging technique to learn and by the end of the session there will be little left of your lino block.  \n\nBy the end of the workshop you will have a small edition of your own colourful prints and the knowledge and skills to continue your lino printing journey at home. You may wish to bring some of your own images to work from\, however plenty of inspiration will be at hand to help you decide.  \nAll tools and materials provided. \nNon members welcome.   \nPlease bring a mug for hot drinks and a packed lunch.

SUMMARY:Resolutions Pros & Cons Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Would you like more information about the chosen resolutions?\nWould you like your WI to make an informed decision when voting?\nCome and discuss the pros and cons of this year’s selected resolutions: \n\nAccessible public toilet facilities to promote dignity\, health\, and social inclusion\n\nThis resolution is a call for accessible\, clean\, free public toilets which are fundamental to inclusion and wellbeing\, especially for women\, older people\, disabled individuals\, parents and carers. It invites WI branches to take meaningful action—through advocacy\, partnership\, and community engagement—to support local authorities and civil society in reversing the closure trend and ensuring dignity for all. \n\nAction on women’s homelessness \n\nThe NFWI echoes the calls of homelessness charities and urges all levels of government to take action to reduce women’s homelessness\, reduce the number of women at risk of homelessness\, and improve the quality of temporary accommodation. We call on WI members to support homelessness organisations in their communities and campaign to ensure that all women have a place they can safely call home.\nIn order to take into consideration WI and federation capacity\, it is proposed that should both resolutions be passed at the Annual Meeting\, the following approach would be taken: \n\nA local-only campaign is developed for Accessible Public Toilet Facilities should this resolution pass. This is in line with the focus of the resolution. NFWI support would include providing outline campaign guidance and signposting to relevant organisations. This would be an opportunity for WIs and federations to focus on local campaigning on this topic. Members have expressed to the NFWI a desire for more practical local campaigns\, and this resolution lends itself well to this approach.\nA nationally focused campaign is developed for Action on Women’s Homelessness should this resolution pass. This would include educational activity on the topic\, exploring national partnerships and much more limited local action.\nTaking a phased approach to implementing campaigns on these resolutions should they both pass at the 2026 AM.\n\nThis event is for WI Members only. \nNOTE: NFWI will also be hosting a webinar on Friday 24 April 2026 at 12noon. Members who wish to join can register their interest via MyWI https://www.thewi.org.uk/campaigns/resolutions/join-our-resolution-webinar-in-april
