DESCRIPTION:EARLY BIRD RATE £20 – BOOK BY 28TH FEBRUARY 2022 \nNON MEMBER RATE £23 \n   \nWe last dabbled together in 2019 so we are delighted to announce that we will be dabbling again at WI centre. \nThis day will consist of two crafts for you to participate in – a Dorset button and a Fabric Flower Brooch\, as well as a baking demonstration and a soup and cake lunch. \nDot Reed will be tutor as you learn to make a Dorset button. These buttons which were first made in Dorset in the 1600s and continued to be made by women at home until machines took over in the 1800’s. The button will be made using the cartwheel pattern and once completed\, can be used as an embellishment for clothing or as a part of craft work. \nJulie Alen is the tutor for the Fabric Flower brooch. All materials will be provided for both these crafts and an instruction sheet provided. \nThe third activity will be watching a master baker at work. Angela Flynn will be demonstrating scone making with plenty of tips and ideas for achieving a successful and scrumptious offering. A recipe sheet will be provided. \nLunch will be soup\, accompanied by scones and a piece of cake. \nWe have limited numbers for this event so book early.

If yes then why not join our workshop to learn/improve your machine sewing techniques and knowledge.   The workshop will cover: pattern markings\, checking a pattern will fit\, cutting out; putting in zips both normal and invisible; seam finishes; and buttonholes and hems. Your tutor is Susan Sparrow who has over 25 years experience and qualifications in teaching clothes making and soft furnishings to adults.  \nYou will need to bring your own sewing machine and be able to use its basic functions.  \nPlus spare needles and bobbins and don’t forget to pack the lead.\nMachine Instruction booklet.\nBasic and invisible zip feet plus any other feet your machine has.\nSewing Machine thread\, pins\, tape measure\, scissors\, hand sewing needles and thimble if you use one.\nA garment pattern that you would like to alter to fit you.\nApproximately 1/2 meter of any type of fabric (not heavy curtain weight – an old pillow case or 2 tea towels would be ideal).\nAn invisible zip any colour minimum length 30 cm or longer.

SUMMARY:Waggle Hound Applique with Gary Mills on Zoom - CCC
DESCRIPTION:How to appliqué this adorable hound\, “Waggle Tails”\, will be demonstrated in a 1 ½ hour zoom session by textile artist and designer Gary Mills. This workshop with Gary is a ‘skills bomb’ of processes for you to learn.  Tailored for the beginner in the art of firstly transferring the image\, then how to use transfer adhesive for appliqué with free motion embroidery\, it is a great start to get to grips with these addictive skilled processes; you will even learn how to hand tint with colour to finish off your outcome. This class is full of little cheats and how-to tips to get the best results from both yourself and your sewing machine. SUMMARY:Furoshiki with Saori Seward on Zoom - CCC
DESCRIPTION:Furoshiki are traditional Japanese versatile cloths\, in various sizes\, designs and materials\, with many different possible applications.  Originally they were used in traditional Japanese public baths (Onsen)\, to wrap up your clothes to avoid a mix-up with other people. Their use was slowly declining due to the massive production and availability of plastic bags. Recently however\, the cloth is experiencing a revival. Furoshiki are great for carrying shopping home\, and they can help to reduce plastic bag and other packaging consumption. With simple knotting\, Furoshiki transforms from a plain cloth into a stylish bag in no time.  In this workshop you will learn lots of wrapping techniques\, including how to wrap a square “Bento box” shape\, a wine bottle and a how to make a handbag from one single Furoshiki cloth. Now is your opportunity to enjoy this experience again and develop your design into a piece of unique needlework.  In the morning\, led by Shelia Gunson\, you will be drawing and colouring your own design in the Zentangle style.   Inspirational materials will be available to stimulate those creative designs.  The afternoon session led by Lesley Evans\, will show you how to transfer your design onto fabric\, and now it is time to paint with the sewing needle!  Coloured threads in different stitches will fill in sections of the pattern.
