DESCRIPTION:Early bird ticket price £28 if booked before 31st May \nNon members £33 \n \nEver wanted to learn to patchwork. Now C&CC are offering you the opportunity to try this diverse craft. This workshop is concentrating on one aspect of patchwork\, American blocks\, and you will also learn a basic quilting technique.   At the end of the workshop\, you will leave with a completed cushion cover. The cost includes the fabric for the cover with a variety of colours and patterns to choose from.\nThe workshop will include a demonstration on the selection\, preparation and cutting of the blocks.  Having selected your fabrics\, you will join the shapes to form the block and then finally the cushion cover. Basic quilting techniques will be employed to finish the cover.\nYour tutor is Paulette\, a C&CC committee member\, who is a very enthusiastic and skilled patch worker and quilter\, who has been exploring and enjoying this craft for over 40 years.\nYou will need to bring your own sewing machine and be competent in basic stitching.  The full list of requirements will be sent with your confirmation. \nPlease bring your own mug and a packed lunch.

DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Liverpool Street Station at 10am\, we will travel by underground to Westminster and walk to Buckingham Palace where you will witness the Guard Change (if scheduled this day) and be given an explanation of the history of Buckingham Palace and its day-to-day workings. From here witness the new Cavalry Guard making its way along to Horse Guards. We shall stroll along The Mall passing Clarence House and the historic St James’ Palace. We continue along to the area of St James highlighting some historic shops that for generations have been used by the Royal Family and make our way from St James to Trafalgar Square where the history of this famous square (the centre of London) will be explained.  We finally finish back to Westminster to hear the history of Parliament\, Westminster Abbey and the connections with the Royal Family.

It’s also a great way to use fabric left from another project as the sides\, handles\, linings\, and gusset can be completely different fabrics. \nPat will also demonstrate a simple patchwork technique you could use another time to make another of the bags.  \nThis course requires the use of a sewing machine\, which you need to bring with you\, and to know how to use it for straight stitching. DESCRIPTION:EARLY BIRD MEMBER PRICE £40 – BOOK BY 31ST MARCH 2022 \nNON MEMBER PRICE £49 \n   \nThe Cookery & Creative Crafts Committee is pleased to welcome a new Tutor\, Nik Ravenscroft\, to run a goldwork workshop. \nGoldwork embroidery dates back thousands of years with its roots in religious and royal embroidery and the English were renowned for their particular skill in this area during the early medieval era – so much so that their work is known as opus anglicanum. Goldwork embroidery uses a variety of metal threads which produce dazzling results. \nThis workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience of goldwork. You will be working a briar rose on silk fabric which can be made into a brooch\, and all the materials you need are included in the price of the workshop. You will need to bring – small scissors for thread; thimble; fine sewing needles; tweezers; notebook and pen; and glasses/magnifier. Nik has a lot of the equipment available to borrow\, so don’t worry if you have never done anything like this before – you don’t have to buy anything special. \nNik is an experienced teacher and embroiderer who is currently leading the team creating the Friends’ Norwich Tapestry (like the Bayeux tapestry) for Norwich Castle Museum’s refurbishment of its keep as a mediaeval Royal Palace. She has a great interest in historic embroidery and has taught embroidery to a wide range of students\, including embroidery groups. Nik will be supporting her workshop with photographs and recorded tutorials; this will reduce close contact and allow a good view of the sewing techniques to be employed. \nThis is the first time that CCC has offered a gold work workshop\, places are limited so don’t delay – book today and take advantage of our early bird price!

Your tutor for the workshop is Susan Horne\, NAFAS Qualified Area Demonstrator and Tutor\, who has City and Guilds Diploma’s level 2 and 3 in floristry. Sue’s love of flower arranging gave her the confidence to compete in in floral Art competition\, including the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show where she gained a Silver Gilt medal and in the WAFA World Show in 2017 where she was awarded 3rd place. She has also had the privilege of arranging flowers at Westminster Abbey on more than one occasion. A tutor with a wealth of experience. This workshop will consist of the completion of two floral arrangements. \nAll the flowers\, materials\, containers and sundries you need to complete your arrangements will be sourced and supplied by Sue and is included in the ticket price. This promises to be a fun filled floral jubilee day so book early as places are limited.

DESCRIPTION:EARLY BIRD RATE £20 – BOOK BY 28TH FEBRUARY 2022 \nNON MEMBER RATE £23 \n   \nWe last dabbled together in 2019 so we are delighted to announce that we will be dabbling again at WI centre. \nThis day will consist of two crafts for you to participate in – a Dorset button and a Fabric Flower Brooch\, as well as a baking demonstration and a soup and cake lunch. \nDot Reed will be tutor as you learn to make a Dorset button. These buttons which were first made in Dorset in the 1600s and continued to be made by women at home until machines took over in the 1800’s. The button will be made using the cartwheel pattern and once completed\, can be used as an embellishment for clothing or as a part of craft work. \nJulie Alen is the tutor for the Fabric Flower brooch. All materials will be provided for both these crafts and an instruction sheet provided. \nThe third activity will be watching a master baker at work. Angela Flynn will be demonstrating scone making with plenty of tips and ideas for achieving a successful and scrumptious offering. A recipe sheet will be provided. \nLunch will be soup\, accompanied by scones and a piece of cake. \nWe have limited numbers for this event so book early.

DESCRIPTION:EARLY BIRD MEMBERS TICKET BOOK BY 21st FEBRUARY £27 \n\nNON MEMBERS £33 \n \nWould you like to learn the skills that are tested on the BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee? If yes then why not join our workshop to learn/improve your machine sewing techniques and knowledge.   The workshop will cover: pattern markings\, checking a pattern will fit\, cutting out; putting in zips both normal and invisible; seam finishes; and buttonholes and hems. Your tutor is Susan Sparrow who has over 25 years experience and qualifications in teaching clothes making and soft furnishings to adults.  \nYou will need to bring your own sewing machine and be able to use its basic functions.  \nPlus spare needles and bobbins and don’t forget to pack the lead.\nMachine Instruction booklet.\nBasic and invisible zip feet plus any other feet your machine has.\nSewing Machine thread\, pins\, tape measure\, scissors\, hand sewing needles and thimble if you use one.\nA garment pattern that you would like to alter to fit you.\nApproximately 1/2 meter of any type of fabric (not heavy curtain weight – an old pillow case or 2 tea towels would be ideal).\nAn invisible zip any colour minimum length 30 cm or longer.
