SUMMARY:Mountmellick Stitch Sampler with Pat Trott
DESCRIPTION:C&CC are pleased to be able to offer this workshop in Mountmellick Embroidery with Pat Trott\, who is an expert in this field. Mountemellick is a whitework technique developed in Ireland during the 19th century. It is traditionally known as white on white and has very distinctive stitches. \nAt this workshop you will be learning a number of the stitches and creating a sampler. Pat will provide advice on projects that can be completed after the workshop.  You will receive a kit which will include the material and the threads for working on your sampler on the day. A requirement list of additional items needed is listed below. This is a unique opportunity to learn a new technique from a renowned embroiderer. \nPlease bring a mug for tea/coffee and a packed lunch. \nMountmellick Embroidery is traditionally worked on closely woven white cotton satin ‘jean’ with matte white cotton thread and has the following characteristics:- \n1. It is always white-on-white.\n2. It has contrast:- [a] smooth satin stitch against padded and knotted stitchery\n                                  [b] Cotton satin fabric\, matte cotton thread.\n3. The absence of eyelets or open work.\n4. Natural floral design\, fairly large in scale.\n5. Buttonholed and fringed edges. \nPlease bring the following items:-\nGeneral sewing equipment to include embroidery scissors and chenille needles sizes 24 and 26\nA frame – either tambour (round) and/or a slate frame (square) size 8” or 10” or 12”\nCrochet cotton\, to lace fabric to frame if using a slate frame.\nTracing paper and pencil/dressmakers carbon OR blue water soluble fabric marker pen.\nA pair of number 10 or 12 knitting needles (or 3.25mm or 2.75mm metric sizes)\nGlasses and magnifier if required. \nPat will also have copies of her book for sale at £9 each. \nNon members welcome £44
