Mountmellick Stitch Sampler with Pat Trott

April 24 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

C&CC are pleased to be able to offer this workshop in Mountmellick Embroidery with Pat Trott, who is an expert in this field. Mountemellick is a whitework technique developed in Ireland during the 19th century. It is traditionally known as white on white and has very distinctive stitches.

At this workshop you will be learning a number of the stitches and creating a sampler. Pat will provide advice on projects that can be completed after the workshop.  You will receive a kit which will include the material and the threads for working on your sampler on the day. A requirement list of additional items needed is listed below. This is a unique opportunity to learn a new technique from a renowned embroiderer.

Please bring a mug for tea/coffee and a packed lunch.

Mountmellick Embroidery is traditionally worked on closely woven white cotton satin ‘jean’ with matte white cotton thread and has the following characteristics:-

1. It is always white-on-white.
2. It has contrast:- [a] smooth satin stitch against padded and knotted stitchery
[b] Cotton satin fabric, matte cotton thread.
3. The absence of eyelets or open work.
4. Natural floral design, fairly large in scale.
5. Buttonholed and fringed edges.

Please bring the following items:-
