Association of Show and Competition Judges (ASCJ)

The Association of Show and Competition Judges (ASCJ) launched in 2025, and has more than 100 Full and Associate members, judging across our five areas of excellence: Craft, Cookery, Preserves, Floral Art and Interpretation and Staging. https://showandcompetitionjudges.com/
Here’s a snapshot of their work – and how they are helping both judges and show organisers:
- Training: courses for new judges in Craft and Cookery, Preserves, and Staging and Interpretation.
- Our introductory briefings, “So you want to be a judge” have helped prospective judges understand what is involved and to decide whether judging is right for them.
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Members are actively expanding their expertise through a growing programme of workshops and peer led learning.
- Our regular Newsletter updates members on up-and-coming events and workshops as well as other important information relating to the work of a judge.
- Connecting Judges with Shows: they have introduced ASCJ Judges to show organisers who contact us for support. While they suggest guideline rates for judging £12.50hr and .40p per mile expenses (2025), individual judges negotiate their own fees and expenses directly with each show.
Here is how they can support you as Show Organisers:
- Show Dates: Let them know your show dates. They will then circulate details to our members so that they can get in touch directly
- Show Organising and Schedule Writing: they hold Show Secretary and Organiser Forums where they provide an opportunity for show secretaries, organisers and committee members to share experiences and find solutions including writing successful schedules, attracting stewards and other issues. Free to attend and open to all.
- Information and Training for Show Stewards. Stewards play a vital role.
- Specific sessions on Show Safety are free to attend and open to all.
- New Judges: know someone who is curious about judging. Please encourage them to get in touch.
